The Butler Texas Longhorn is a genetic strain of cattle descending from one of the original seven founding longhorn families. In 1923 the Butler family began developing an elite herd of twisted big horn cattle that originated from the extremely hardy East Texas range cattle. Over the next forty plus years, these cattle went through a stringent selective breeding program to preserve the original range cattle traits and improve the twisted big horn genes.
